The computer may be an integral part in the homes, schools and companies of developed nations but for Africans it is a distant dream. This could also be one of the reasons why the youth in African countries are unable to compete in the global market. Those aspiring to get even basic computer training need to enroll and pay the computer schools which come at a predatory price. Add to this the economical and social barriers that put tremendous pressures on the youth and even this basic computer training becomes inaccessible especially considering the fact that almost ninety percent of the African population live on a hand to mouth existence.

Why do the Basic Computing Training?

Computer literacy refers to the ability to use computer programs in an effective manner. Computer skills have become increasingly important as companies have started to depend upon computerized technology to get work done. Computer skills can mean that you can perform tasks that others in the work force aren’t able to, and you are familiar with and able to work with programs that businesses use. You will have a better chance of being successful in a workplace if you are able to navigate computers and use common or specialized computer programs.

Course Outline:

=> Overview of Computer and Operating System

• Identify the different units of a Micro Computer. Plug in (connect) the external devices of computer.
• Practice on Windows Operating System Environment. Select, open and close Desktop icons for navigation purposes. Create / Rename a folder, Cut/Copy/Paste a File or Folder. Run program/application based on job requirements.
• Use windows explorer and Desktop Management.
• Install and Uninstall software, Run setup program

=>Word Processing (MS Word) and Typing Practice

• Identify the different components of MS Word program. Select Text using mouse / keyboard Edit text as per requirement
• Format Text / Paragraph. Practice typing using “Type Tutor”
• Save a new document in a specific folder, Open the previously saved document Practice with save and save as option Compose sample English document
• MS Word(File Create, Save, Open, Edit, Bold, Italic, Text Align, Border & Shading, Table Inserting and Editing.)
• Check Spelling & Grammatical Error as per requirements Set Language and use Auto Summarization highlight key points Use Word count to count total pages, characters, lines & paragraphs in a document in accordance to task assigned
• Compose a sample document/application/Bio-data in Bengali and English with formatting.

• Identify the different components of spreadsheet program Identify Rows, Columns, Cells and range Move cursor upward, downward, left, right, last cell, last column, last row, first cell, first row, first column

• Design and develop an attractive webpage using Front page.
• Design and develop website with full of information using FrontPage.
• Store the web pages and images using Folders
• Edit web pages of a website.
• View the hyperlinks in a website. Check and fix the hyperlinks in a website.
• Preview the web pages and print from Front page. Print a websites navigation structure.
